Summer Seminars in Literary and Cultural Studies
"Shakespeare and the Sexual Relation"
Seminar Leader
Catherine Belsey
University of Wales
June 10-13, 1993
Faculty and graduate students from any discipline are invited to attend
this seminar. The seminar will focus on a close analysis of the treatment
of desire in specfic texts. "Shakespeare and the Sexual Relation" is an
allusion to Lacan's scandalous insistence that there is no relation, and that
the imaginary misrecognition of the sexual relation tends to take up a lot
of time and energy. Might one argue that male and female homoerotic desire
are at a certain level interchangeable ?
