There is a brand new book out by Jonathan Bate, "Shakespeare and Ovid,"
OUP, 1993. It was just reviewed in the London Review of Books.

Regarding Herbert Donow's question, there's just a ton of stuff on
Shakespeare and mythology, but a good, accessible new text is Charles
and Michelle Martindale, SHAKESPEARE AND THE USES OF ANTIQUITY (London
and New York: Routledge, 1990).

                                           Best,

Herbert Donow's student may wish to consult Donna B. Hamilton's *Virgil and
THE TEMPEST: The Politics of Imitation*, Ohio State University Press, 1990.
