I agree that a performance, a very bleak one indeed, could present a Duncan
and a Macduff and a Malcolm and a Banquo who are as bad as you think they
could be. Would it be a good production? Has anyone ever seen one that makes
everyone bad. I think Polanski comes fairly close, but there the society
is benighted and not totally corrupt. There is hope, if only a glimmer.
