Subject: Moonlighting's Taming of the Shrew
It's obviously tough to make *Taming* palatable to modern sensibilities. One
way to do so is just change the ending so that Kate comes out on top--or, well,
equal, at least. Such was done on the defunct TV series "Moonlighting" several
years ago. I taped the episode and showed it to my 12th grade English classes
as a counterpoint to their reading of *Taming*. The paired pieces can make for
some lively discussions on various topics--feminism, Shakespeare vs. popular
culture, etc. I think the "Moonlighting" version is quite funny, but then, I
liked "The Lion King," too.
