Subject: The best studies of Renaissance drama?
A few days ago a graduate student asked me: "what are the best books on
Renaissance drama?" At first my mind experienced extreme overload, and then I
began to talk about Chambers, and Greg, and Harbage, and Bentley, and Tucker
Brooke. And I realized that the books I was recommending were written before
the student was born, and, further, that I don't have the same sure feeling
about books written more recently.
And so I wonder if you would help me out by recommending the best studies of
Renaissance/early modern drama written, say, in the last ten or twenty years? I
have recently made a similar request on FICINO and have received some very
interesting responses.
Thanks.
Yours, Bill Godshalk
