The Bibliographical Society of America (BSA) invites applications for its
annual short-term fellowship program, which supports bibliographical inquiry as
well as research in the history of the book trades and in publishing history.
Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but should
focus on the book or manuscript (the physical object) as historical evidence.
Such topics may include establishing a text or studying the history of book
production, publication, distribution, collecting, or reading. Enumerative
listings do not fall within the scope of this program.
BSA fellowships may be held for one or two months. The program is open to
applicants of any nationality. Fellows will be paid a stipend of up to $1,000
per month in support of travel, living, and research expenses.
In 1994 the BSA awarded twelve months of support to nine scholars from a
variety of disciplines.
Applications, including three letters of reference, for this program will be
due on January 31, 1995.
Prospective applicants are invited to contact the BSA Executive Secretary, P.O.
Box 397, Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163, for application forms and
additional information about the program.
