Subject Re: Clothing
About the point raised by Brooke Brod regarding the bulk of clothed
Elizabethans: I've been struck for a couple years now by the current fashion
in young women's clothes for bulky jackets or multi-layered, often colorful,
shirts/vests etc. worn over skin-tight tights, providing a silhouette that
echoes that of Elizabethan men (e.g., the famous painting of Henry VIII). Even
the slashed jeans recalls the slashed sleeves of the doublet.
