Subject: SSE NOW BOOKING '99 Tour

The Shenandoah Shakespeare Express is now booking its 1999 Done Quickly
Tour (**Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice, The Merry Wives of Windsor**).

For over a decade, the SSE has captivated audiences at home and abroad
with a fresh approach to Shakespeare that emphasizes the power of
language over high-tech theatrical effects. Employing the principles of
of Renaissance staging (actors share the same light with the audience,
directly engage the audience, and double roles), the SSE forges a rare
sense of community between performers and audience. Typical of student
responses to SSE performances is this one from a 14-year-old student in
rural Virginia: "It was cooler than a Velcro wall!" At the other end of
the audience spectrum, scholar Stephen Booth wrote of the SSE in the
_Shakespeare Quarterly_: "I first saw the SSE perform ... in 1991. I
haven't thought the same since Shakespeare or the theatre .... [SSE
performances] are clear, fast, convincing, and genuinely thrilling."

The SSE combines performances in repertory with a variety of workshop
titles to create a Portable Shakespeare Festival. Venues can mix and
match energetic performances and intimate, hands-on workshops for
maximum impact. Whether your audience prefers a single performance or
an extended residency, the Shenandoah Shakespeare Express will tailor
its visit to suit your needs.
