Dear Members,

Thank you very much for your kind help on crab. I learned a lot from
some of your explanations and had a pleasant surprise to see so many
responses. It is an honor for me to be a member of this list. Perhaps
I should have mentioned in my question that based on the LLL finishing
lines I have assumed crab to mean crabapple. However, I found it
difficult to imagine an apple floating in ale or to understand the
purpose it might serve. That is why your lengthier explanations were
especially helpful. I again use this opportunity to thank you all very
much.

Yours, Azita Ghodsi Rasi

I wonder if those who have kindly responded to the enquiry about
crab(apples)s have considered the possibility that, rather than
answering the question, they might have been more genuinely helpful to
the enquirer by pointing to the existence of annotated editions of the
play.
