Subject: 2 Questions
To the Shakespeare Conference :
I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida and I am one of
the teachers of Shakespeare (for actors) here.
For three years now I have been using a combination of portions of the
John Barton book and RSC video tapes and Cicely Berry's "The Actor and
His Text"...4 hours a week...
I am unhappy with the results. Can anyone suggest a structure for a
performer's course or point me to a successful format? (Let me hasten
to add that I like the Berry book very much, I expect it is my handling
of the material that is the trouble).
On another issue, I saw the RSC production of "The Spanish Tragedy" in
December and was by the obvious comparisons with some of W.S.
stuff...Iago..." from this time forth I never will speak
word"...revenge...Hamlet... etc. this has probably all been talked about
before I joined the Conference, but if anyone has any further thoughts I
would be keen to hear them.
Thanks,
David Gardiner
