I've been away from the list for awhile, so I don't know how much
discussion of the Lincoln Center 12th Night has already crossed the
list, but the televised performance Sunday night got me to wondering
what the rest of you think of Helen Hunt's portrayal of Viola.

I was appalled. As a fan of Jamie Buchman, I was prepared to cut Hunt
some slack, but what I saw and heard was worse than any professional or
amateur performance in my experience. The labored line readings left me
not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Shouldn't theater directors be
required to save television actresses that kind of embarrassment.

Or am I the only one who found her totally unequipped for the role?

Regretfully,
David Crosby

Subject: Age of Consent and Tempest Films

Does anyone on the list know where I might find a copy of -Age of
Consent-, the 1969 Michael Powell film with James Mason and Helen Mirren
which contains echoes to the Tempest? Or does anyone have a copy of the
1969 Tempest by Nicholas Young and David Snasdell?

On a related note, I have been trying to locate -Sketches for the
Tempest-, a posthumous collection of George Dunning's plans for an
animated Tempest film (released 1979) and Peter Greenaway-Anatomy of a
Filmmaker, a BBC Omnibus special regarding -Prospero's Books-. Is
either available in the US?

Thanks in advance for all help,

Hugh Davis

In response to the conversation about poisons in Shakespeare, a
subscriber asked me to send her a photocopy of a pamphlet that I'd
referred to. I'd be happy to do so but don't have the subscriber's name
and address.
