Subject: Q: Internet Access in the UK
Dear SHAKSPEReans,
In a few weeks, I will be leaving for England to attend the
International Shakespeare Conference at Stratford. We will be in the UK
for about two weeks, and although I am not sure that I will want to
bother with editing SHAKSPER digests during that time, I do have some
questions about accessing the Internet in the UK. Let me say that this
will be my first trip to the UK and only my second trip to Europe - the
last being thirty years - so please excuse the naivete of my questions.
First, could someone recommend a Internet Provider for me. Many
SHAKSPEReans in the UK use Compuserve; is Compuserve the best bet?
Second, I have purchased a Converter Adaptor Kit. Is this all I will
need to do to get my laptop working with UK electrical current?
Third, I have a PCMCIA 56K modem card and a PCMCIA 10Base-T card. Will
I be able to use the PCMCIA modem card with the UK telephone system or
should I try to get a guest account with direct Internet access?
I will consider all responses to these questions as private mail to me.
Thanks in advance,
Hardy
