For Romeo and Juliet paintings, Richard Burt might consult Shakespeare
in American Painting by Richard Studing (Fairleigh Dickinson University
Press, 1993). See the paintings by Benjamin West and Norman Mills Price
especially.

Richard Burt asks where to go to find C19 paintings of _Romeo and
Juliet_. One place to start is with William L. Pressly's _A Catalogue
of Paintings in the Folger Shakespeare Library_ (1992). See also W.
Moelwyn Merchant, _Shakespeare and the Artist_, Richard Altick,
_Paintings from Books_, Edward Hodnett, _Book and Image_, Ronald
Paulson, _Book and Painting_.

There is a famous Turner painting of Juliet and her Nurse, which was
bought for a then-astronomical sum a few years ago by a woman in South
America.

A good internet site for Richard Burt to try would be Harry Rusche's
Shakespeare Illustrated, which is devoted to 19th century Shakespeare
illustrations. There are 12 in the R&J section, originating between 1794
and 1867, and I'm sure some qualify as kitschy. The rather long address
is:
