FOURTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR TEACHERS OF SHAKESPEARE
Multi-media Shakespeare: Methods and Materials
Shakespeare Centre, Stratford-upon-Avon, 8 to 14 August 1999
The International Shakespeare Association and the Shakespeare Birthplace
Trust invite you to attend the fourth in a series of conferences which
aim to bring together teachers of Shakespeare from all levels, from
primary schools to universities, and from all parts of the world.
The conference will explore the practicalities and problems of teaching
Shakespeare through a variety of media, including film, video, audio
recordings, and information and communications technology. Contributors
will include theatre practitioners, publishers in the different media,
and teachers and scholars from Britain and other countries. There will
be an opportunity for conference members to display samples of their
own work and for informal discussions and presentations.
Tickets for performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the
Original Shakespeare Company will be arranged for members of the
conference and will include Timon of Athens, Othello and Jonson's
Volpone, with A Midsummer Night's Dream available as an option.
A limited number of fee waivers will be available for delegates from
The registration fee, which includes an opening reception and conference
lunch but not theatre tickets and accommodation, is 120 sterling. A
deposit of 20 sterling (non-refundable) is required by 30 April 1999.
Payment may be made by cheque (sterling only), international money
order, or credit card.
Applications for fee waivers, with a curriculum vitae and a letter
explaining need, should reach the organiser by the same date.
