You may be referring to the delightful "commedia dell'arte" production
of years ago, starring Marc Singer as Petruchio. There was a televised
production of the stage play. As might be supposed from Singer's
presence in it, it was very athletic, with a team of acrobatic, masked
clowns in commedia costumes in the background. Thoroughly delightful.
Best role Singer every had; he did a surprisingly creditable job.
Later, there was the Joe Papp production in New York, also then
telecast, starring Raoul Julia and Meryl Streep. Different and
wonderful, too.
Sorry, I don't have any dates for either production.

It sounds like one of the Stratford, Ontario productions. They are
often shown on TVO and PBS.

That production is a great favorite of mine. It was done by The San
Francisco Conservatory, and I remember that the man playing Petruchio
was in the first "Beastmaster" film.
