I live in a state (Connecticut) where I can watch the French TV news
every night. I've been following their coverage of President Clinton's
current problems and I was fascinated by their word for impeachment:
"destitution." Makes sense, I guess-the opposite, or whatever, of
"institution."

But it makes things look bleak for Bill Clinton's future. After all, in
our language the word means "extreme want of resources or the means of
subsistence."

Shakespeare knew all about such things. As he wrote in CYMBELINE:
"...All is lost; the King himself of his wings destitute."

Well, he's not a Shakespeare character, but I'd compare Clinton more to
Don Giovanni.

"In Italia sei cento e quaranta; in Almagna due cento e trent'una, cento
in Francia, in Turchia novant'una; ma, in Ispagna son gia mille e tre!"
