Subject: SSE's "Pestle" in the Midwest
Given the buzz about the SSE's "The Knight of the Burning Pestle," I
thought I'd take this opportunity to let presenters in the Iowa/Illinois
area that we'll be there with "Pestle" in April, and we still have a few
Some of the comments that have been posted about this production
Francis Beaumont's play about plays is as "modern" as Shakespeare in
Love. Indeed, if Luigi Pirandello, the Marx Brothers, and William
Shakespeare had collaborated on a play, they might have written "The
Knight of the Burning Pestle."
The Knight of the Burning Pestle was one of my most enjoyable evenings
in the theatre. This year's company is the best ensemble Ralph Cohen
and Jim Warren have ever assembled.
And for their first non-Shakespeare related play "The Knight of the
Burning Pestle" was wonderful and, as Dr. Cohen mentioned in the
program, very fit for a modern audience. In fact I think I've sat in
front of some of those characters at the movies.
