Unless I am dreaming, I came across a Latin-English grammar folio (?)
years ago (at British Library or Folger?) by Ben Jonson, with facing
pages so that the English grammar (left side) would coincide with Latin
(right side). I believe English grammar "rules" came along later on,
following the Latin. but if Shakespeare knew "less Latin...," he could
miss a beat, and those unlearned in Latin would not care. I'm sure the
Latin-English connection is the reason i was required to study it in
high school (as in Boston Latin grammar school). Does anyone know of
such a work by Ben Jonson? frances k. barasch
