Subject: Burton's Hamlet
Liza Davies asks where to get access to Burton's Hamlet (the greatest
Hamlet I ever saw, by the way). I believe that the Folger has a copy
which may well be a kinescope-one camera that filmed the production
while it was going on stage.

It wasn't precisely a "film," it was something called Electronovision
(don't ask me what that meant!) and was a capture of the actual stage
performance. I saw it, and still vividly remember Burton's reading of
"O, vengeance" where he becomes obsessed w/ looking at the hand which he
thrust into the air at the beginning of that phrase. It became the
schtick of the entire drama group at Temple U where I was a gofer. I
believe (remembering where I actually saw it) that it was late '64 or
early '65.
Hope this info can help track it down.

I have seen this available in my video store. It actually is a video of
a dress rehearsal.
