Department of English, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates,
irrespective of race, gender or creed, for the following post from 1
January 2000.

Lecturer/Junior Lecturer (three year contract, with the possibility of
renewal).

Candidates should either have recently completed, or be registered for
and have made substantial demonstrable progress towards, a doctorate.
The ability to teach in the areas of the language of literature at
undergraduate level, and Early Modern Literature (especially
Shakespeare) and/or Eighteenth-Century Literature at both undergraduate
and Honours levels is a Departmental requirement.  The successful
candidate would also be expected to teach classes in reading and
composition at the first year level.  The Department, however, reserves
the right to appoint a candidate with other specialisations.
