conference, to be held at UCE in Birmingham, UK, in Easter, 2000.
Papers on the representation of the Renaissance city would be
particularly welcome.

Past, Present and Future
An Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Conference
This is a call for papers from disciplines such as, English and American
Literary Studies, Media Studies, Film, Art History, Sociology, etc.
This one-day conference is intended as a forum for postgraduate students
from a variety of disciplines to explore historical, contemporay and
furturistic representations of the city. Some possible subject areas
could include: utopian and dystopian landcapes, the contrast between the
city and the country, changing representations of the city, the impact
of cultural differences on depictions of the city, and interrogation of
borders and boundaries. Papers on both factual and fictional
representations of the city are welcomed.
Deadline for abstracts: Friday 31st December 1999
Provisional date for conference: Easter, 2000
