David L. Middleton perceptively notes:

>Isn't the screenwriter of "Shampoo" Robert Towne?

Yes. I realized my error right after I sent the message.

Before everyone gets too concerned over Shampoo, can I say that I am
fairly sure that the production which the original posting was concerned
with was a BBC television 'Play of the Month' production. Unfortunately,
to the best of my knowledge, none of these productions are available on
commercial video and few indeed survive in the BBC's own archives.
