Thanks for the good words.
One point about the list. I tried to list only works that had genuinely
active meaning for me as reference tools. There are a lot of terrific
historical texts that could wll go on a list of useful historical tools
for the period, obviously including Laslett's entire corpus. There are
also many bibliographical tools for literary studies of all kinds; see
Harner. I wanted to stay focused on things as much like reference tools
as possible, of wide application, and especially if non-literary or not
well-known.
