In answer to David Levine's question, the 'Rhino 6-CD Shakespeare Audio
Collection' is entitled "Be Thou Now Persuaded - Living In A
Shakespearean World." It's a collection of snippets from various
recordings and productions of Shakespeare's plays, plus the complete
Camden recording of "Romeo and Juliet." One review called it
"Shakespeare's Greatest Phrases" because many of the snippets are
maddingly short.

Aside from the complete "Romeo and Juliet" - it's really in the nature
of a collage, and if you accept it AS A COLLAGE, then it is worth
having.

Here's the blurb we got from Warner on the Rhino Shakespeare box set:

Be Thou Now Persuaded: Living in a Shakespearean World features great
actors of the 20th century performing the Bard's most famous speeches
and pithiest pronouncements from 37 plays and two poems.

Features Sir Laurence Olivier, Kenneth Brannagh <sic>, Sir John
Gieldgud, Elizabeth Taylor, Orson Welles, Vanessa Redgrave, John
Barrymore, Richard Burton, Alec Guinness, Rex Harrison, Jose Ferrer,
Albert Finney, Paul Robeson, Paul Scofield, Ralph Richardson and others.

Disc 1 is titled "To Be...," and it explores such themes as humanity,
identity, love of country, foolery, and madness. Disc 2, titled "Love's
Labors," covers the multitude of love experiences. Disc 2, "Hot Blood,"
covers betrayal, rage, envy, jealousy, violence, murder and guilt. Disc
4, "...Or Not To Be," considers themes of death, spirits and the
supernatural.

Discs 5&6 contain a complete recording of Shakespeare's classic Romeo
and Juliet.

Book includes intro by pop culture authorities Jane and Michael Stern;
Bard bio and history of Elizabethan theatre by Shakespeare scholar
Norrie Epstein; capsule descriptions of each play by Michael Macrone;
and track-by-track notes by box set co-producer Brenda Johnson-Grau;
plus a suggested reading list and recommended Web sites.

We have not yet received stock on this item, and it would appear that
Rhino/Warner is either late in supplying it, or did not press enough
copies to go around. Send me an e-mail, and I'll let you know when they
arrive.
