Dear John,

Actually, Lisa Hopkins sent me an interesting note offline, to the
effect that there is something of a relationship between the Spensers
and the Spencers, or at least that one was claimed.  I won't attempt to
paraphrase her argument, but apparently it's contained, at least in
part, in a forthcoming book on Marlowe, due for publication later this
year.
