Subject: More Pop Culture
I just received a flyer from the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, titled
"The Bard Rocks in Chicago." It's a solicitation for teachers to bring
their students to performances at a reduced price. It's got a series of
ersatz caricature portraits of the bard-the big portrait clear and the
rest increasingly shaking (presumably he is "rocking").
The special offer (large label-"Back by Popular Demand") involves a
theater ticket at 33% off, combined with a visit to the nearby Hard Rock
Cafe, which is the "joint sponsor" of the offer. At the Hard Rock Cafe,
students get a "special student meal package, from $10" if they are part
of the "Bard Rocks Package."
Also on the front of the flyer is the legend: "Bill" Would Have Dug It!
(I've always wondered when "Will" became "Bill" in popular culture.)
Perhaps not insignificantly, the coordinators of the offer are named
Kristen, Naomi, and Monica.
The Chicago group, incidentally, is currently doing MND and will be
doing All's Well, April to June.
