Subject: Call for Papers: Middleton
I would like to arrange for a panel at the 2000 MLA convention in
Washington on "Unknown Thomas Middleton." I am soliciting papers or
proposals on any Middleton texts of any genre that have rarely or never
been discussed in scholarly criticism. For the purposes of this panel,
papers on such texts as "The Ant and the Nightingale," "The Peacemaker,"
"The Triumphs of Honour and Virtue," or "Anything for a Quiet Life"
would be more welcome than papers on "The Changeling," "Women Beware
Women," "Michaelmas Term," or "A Chaste Maid in Cheapside." The ideal
paper would both introduce the lesser or unknown text and situate our
understanding of it in other current Middleton criticism. In keeping
with MLA requirements, I intend to limit the panel to three-four papers
of 15-20 minutes presentation time. Every person presenting a paper
would have to be a member of the MLA by April 1, 2000.
If you are interested, please send a paper or a proposal and a short
vita by March 17 to Jack Heller, 1840 1/2 Carolina Avenue, Orangeburg,
South Carolina 29115. Email inquiries or submissions are welcomed to
