The Parker Othello will be out on DVD in a week or so. The recent
Hoffman MND is out on DVD now.

In answer to the query about Shakespeare on DVD, here's a relatively
current list of Shakespeare DVDs on or scheduled to be on DVD in Region
1 (i.e., North American release):

Released:
10 Things I Hate about You (adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew)
As You Like It (Olivier, dir. Czinner)
Hamlet (Burton, dir. Gielgud)
Henry V (dir. Olivier--comes with an audio commentary track and extras)
McClintock (adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew; the DVD transfer is
awful)
A Midsummer Night's Dream (dir. Hoffman)
Much Ado about Nothing (dir. Branagh)
Othello (dir. Welles)
Ran (adaptation of King Lear; dir. Kurosawa)
Shakespeare in Love (in two editions; the Collector's Edition has
extras and commentary)
The Taming of the Shrew (Burton/Taylor, dir. Zeffirelli)
The Taming of the Shrew (dir. Allison)
Tromeo and Juliet
William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet (dir. Luhrmann)

A few more Shakespearean works on DVD:

Released:
Forbidden Planet (loose adaptation of The Tempest)
A Thousand Acres (loose adaptation of King Lear)

Passing references may be found in a number of other DVD releases, such
as Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, The Postman, Never Been
Kissed, In and Out, and others. Also available is the film of
Shostakovich's opera Lady Macbeth of Mtensk, as well as the X-rated
films X Hamlet and Juliet and Romeo.

Scheduled for release:
Othello (Fishburne/Branagh, dir. Parker, street date 1/18/2000)
Star Trek: The Original Series 6 ("Conscience of the King", street date
2/22/2000)
Richard III (McKellen, dir. Loncraine, street date 3/28/2000)

Rumored, no scheduled date of release:
Tragedy of King Lear (with Mike Kellen)
Tragedy of Macbeth (with Jeremy Brett)
Tragedy of Richard II (with David Birney)
Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet
Much Ado about Nothing: Special Edition (dir. Branagh)

If you want to vote for a particular film to be released on DVD in
Region 1, you can do so at this address:
