Speaking of which, something seems to have gone awry with the numbering
of the digests:

11.0123, 11.0124 followed by 11.0125 then 11.01256 then (?) 11.01258,
11.01259, etc

I don't know how you're going to sort this one out!

Regards,
John Briggs

[Editor's Note: You got me, John. The mistaken numbering was all human
error -- mine; however. I will note that the digests where prepared
during the Washington, DC, area's first major snow storm of the season
-- insert Washingtonians and snow jokes -- causing glare on my computer
monitor. The correct numbering should be as follows: 11.01256 = 11.0126,
11.01257 = 11.0127, 11.01258 = 11.0128, 11.01259 = 11.0129, 11.1260 =
11.0130, 11.1261 = 11.0131, and 11.01262 = 11.0132. Does this get me off
the hook? --Hardy]

Bah! It has nothing to do with Microsoft; it's the year the PC was
created and part of being PC compatible is keeping that part of the BIOS
the same.

Microsoft's big break just happened to be the creation of the PC :)

[Editor's Note: I want to go on record as being delighted that some
discussions on SHAKSPER do not have to be all that serious all of the
time. This phenomenon reminds me of Dr. Charles Marx's statement: "The
mode of production in material life determines the social, political,
and intellectual life processes in general. It is not the consciousness
of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social
being that determines their consciousness. At a certain stage of their
development, the material forces of production in society come in
conflict with the existing relations of production, or-what is but a
legal expression for the same thing-with the property relations within
which they have been at work before. From forms of development of the
forces of production these relations turn into their fetters. Then
begins an epoch of social revolution. With the change of the economic
foundation the entire immense superstructure is more or less rapidly
transformed. In considering such transformations a distinction should
always be made between the material transformation of the economic
conditions of production which can be determined with the precision of
natural science, and the legal, political, religious, aesthetic, or
philosophic-in short, ideologically forms in which men become conscious
of this conflict and fight it out. " Thanks all, Hardy]
