Subject: Early Play Illustration
I would be grateful for help in identifying what I think is a play
illustrated in MS 5072.f28r from the Bibliotheque de l'Arsenal in
Paris. On the left of this illustration is an actor in a devil suit;
his devil's mask is being handed to him by someone else. On the right
side of the picture is the actor in his devil suit participating in a
play. It is not a play I recognize, and I would be grateful for help in
identifying it.
I found the illustration in a book by Kenneth Richards and Laura
Richards, The Commedia dell'Arte A Documentary History (Oxford:
Blackwell, 1990), p. 15.
If anyone knows of another online discussion group that I might try with
this inquiry, I would be grateful for that information as well.
