Shame on you, Ed, for starting that!! What about the lesbian incest
between Goneril and Regan??? And doesn't Kent say he "loves" the king???

Actually, I think the "pray you, undo this button" may be intended to
demonstrate the king in ruins . . . his button that needs undoing, his
imperial voice still speaking in the tones of command royal, though
unable at this juncture to "command" anyone or anything, even his own
sanity. Lear has come "unbuttoned," the lendings of his kingship, his
fatherhood, his wonted relationship to the universe all "off"-and his
beloved child is dead because of the unbuttoning that began with his
asking her to "mend [her] speech a little."
