As an occasional contributor/lurker on this list, I am somewhat troubled
by what Pervez Rizvi has stated.
While I can appreciate the purpose behind his statements, I think that
what has been said could
prove to silence anyone not of a "scholarly" background in Shakespeare,
myself included. I come
from the performance side of the house, rather than the scholarly, if
one can make that distinction. I am by no means a scholar
Now, that's not to say that I don't agree that all members should
consider well their statements before submission, but to me, at least,
the non-scholarly or "amateur" do have as much to offer to this list.
On the other hand, perhaps I have misread the purpose of this list
entirely, and for that I apologize.
