Subject: Call for Papers: Shakespeare and Reformation

Shakespeare and the Reformation

Call for Papers.

Submissions invited for a special issue of Religion and the Arts, and
for a collection of essays. Essays might respond to the current
revisionist debate about the Reformation, and new approaches to the
religious culture of Shakespeare's plays. The following might be
considered: the nuances of religious divisions in Shakespeare's time,
their subsequent history in relation to Shakespeare's reception, and
also issues of theatricality, censorship, cultural politics, iconoclasm,
national definition, reader response. But any topic concerned with
Shakespeare's religious contexts will be welcome. Much has been said
about Shakespeare's Catholic connections in recent years, but Religion
and the Arts would like to move the conversation to the next level.
Manuscripts must be received no later than 15 December 2001.

Manuscripts should follow the MLA Style Manual, and be sent in
triplicate. If you wish the manuscripts returned, enclose a stamped
self-addressed envelope. Articles, normally 5,000 to 10,000 words, are
refereed and should be designed for a diverse audience. If article is
accepted, a disk will be requested. Also needed will be an abstract of
150-200 words. Authors are required to furnish needed illustrations and
permissions.
