Doug Buchanan will find a fair amount of material on Christopher Marlowe
and Cambridge in Graham Chainey, A Literary History of Cambridge
(Cambridge: Cambridge U., 1995).  This is a revised edition of a 1985
volume.  Page 23 has a detailed discussion of the portrait, and gives
plenty of information about the university and the town at the time of
Marlowe.
