Subject:        Forbidden Planet/Forbidden Attribution


I finally saw Forbidden Planet.  Aside from the fact that it is slow,
has silly dialogue, and shallow characterizations, I didn't like it very
much, but then I don't dig sci-fi.

None of which is the point.  It is well-known that the film is based on
The Tempest.  It is difficult to conclude this from the film.  I guess I
can see it, but barely.  The points of commonality are few.  My question
is, why is this so well-known?  What is the source or sources of this
insight?
