Subject: Folger Events During MLA
MLA Conference Participants,
You are cordially invited to a reception on Thursday, 28 December, from
5:00 until 7:00pm in the Library's Exhibition Hall and Reading Rooms.
The exhibition Writing on Hands: Memory and Knowledge in Early Modern
Europe will be on display in the Great Hall. The exhibition focuses on
the hand as the meeting place of matter, mind, and spirit. More than
eighty images from the fifteenth through the seventeenth centuries
illuminate early modern conceptual frameworks for learning, remembering,
and recalling practical and abstract ideas by means of the human hand.
The exhibition illustrates such diverse realms as anatomy, psychology,
mathematics, music, rhetoric, religion, palmistry, and alchemy.
MLA participants are also invited to The Folger Theatre's production of
Twelfth Night, presented by the Shenandoah Shakespeare Express,
co-directed by Ralph Alan Cohen and Stephen Booth. A limited number of
tickets are being held for MLA participants (until December 20th) for
the performance on the evening of the reception, December 27th at
7:30pm. Tickets are $20-$30. For reservations visit the Folger online
at www.folger.edu or CALL THE FOLGER BOX OFFICE (202) 544-7077.
