Subject: Shakespeare's in Love--New Romance Out

>There's a new romance novel out in which Shakespeare is a she entitled
>Much Ado About Love.

Not exactly what Virginia Woolf had in mind, but if you want to check it
out (there's even a copy of the cover, which has "Sir Ian" in blue jeans
and no shirt) at:

http://www.harpercollins.com/hc/book_xml.asp?isbn=0380815176

For excellent work on this Shakespeare's appearance and citation in this
genre, see Laurie Osborne's essays in Appropriating Shakespeare,
(Rutledge, 2000), Shakespeare Without Class (forthcoming Dec. 2000 from
St. Martins, now Palgrave), and Shakespeare After Mass Media
(forthcoming Blackwell, 2001--I am the editor of this last collection).

As in the film Shakespeare in Love, Elizabeth I is a character in the
novel.
