Actually, all that we know for certain is that Shakespeare is not
recorded as having matriculated as an undergraduate, nor as having
graduated. A glance at the map will show that Oxford is on the route
from Stratford to London. If anyone is still keen on searching for the
'missing years', Oxford is a better bet than Lancashire. What a
'schoolmaster in the country' might be doing in Oxford is a wide field
for speculation: teaching assistant, tutor to dim students, actor or
author for student plays...
