Subject: Romeo and Juliet

The Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies at Victoria
University (in the University of Toronto) has recently published
annotated English translations of four novellas - by Masuccio
Salernitano, Luigi da Porto, Matteo Bandello and Pierre Boaistuau - that
are the literary precursors to Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Nicole
Prunster's translation brings them to the attention of the English
reading public and her introduction (pp.1-18) discusses the evolution of
the tale of the two Veronese lovers. The volume, highly suitable for
graduate and for senior undergraduate classes, is available through the
Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies: phone (416) 585 4484,

The cost of the volume is US$12.
