For those who don't know or don't subscribe to Shakespeare Bulletin, a
Journal of Performance Criticism and Scholarship (now in its 18th year):
The Spring 2000 issue (18.2) is recently off the press. This issue
features Regional Shakespeare. Contents:
Charles Marowitz on adapting Shakespeare for the contemporary
stage--"The Making of <Variations on Measure for Measure>."
<Variations>, directed by Marowitz, will be mounted by Tygres Heart
Shakespeare Co., Portland, OR, Sept. 29-Nov. 5.
Alan Armstrong on Shakespeare in Ashland 1999.
Reviews by several hands of Stratford, Ont., Festival 1999, together
with Alex Newell's "Canadian's Overview."
In the section "Shakespeare on Film," Robert F. Willson's review essay
of Cineaste's "Shakespeare in the Cinema Supplement" and Patricia
Lennox's report on Malaga Centenary Conference: "Shakespeare on Screen."
The issue also covers regional productions of Shakespeare and his
contemporaries from New Haven, CT to Portland, OR.
As usual, the issue includes production photos, Books on the Rialto and
book reviews, and a listing of Events.
