Subject: SOS Yorick
I just received the following from Tanya Gough. I received her
permission to share it with the list, if Hardy will permit, so others
will know what The Stratford Festival (Ontario, Canada) is doing to her,
and to invite list members to act to help her out. This all began with
the Festival making her landlord an offer too good to refuse, then
offering Tanya slim compensation.
>I'm at my wit's end. The bottom line, however, is that I don't have
>much choice but to close given the situation they have created,
>and if I do close, I'm starting to fear that the catalogue may be >affected.
>The compensation offered, their "final offer," doesn't even begin to cover
>the loses I would incur by closing down the shop, and doesn't even
>compensate me for lost income, and frankly it's starting to look like I'm
>going to have to bite the bullet and get a "real" job instead.
>Unfortunately, the Festival knows they have me over a barrel and are acting
>accordingly. My lawyer thinks this is pretty much the end of the line, and
>I just got a concurring evaluation from a second one. I've thought about
>going to the press, but I can't afford to lose the precious ground I have
>gained in the past 6 months of this debacle.
>The store may be a lost cause, but it would kill me to lose the catalogue.
>I really don't know what to do anymore, and I'm exhausted from
>wrestling with this since last September. Antoni Cimolino, the General
>Manager, didn't even have the courtesy to show up at my last meeting with them.
Does anyone share my sense of outrage that a nice person, who supplies a
valuable service to this list, is being treated this way? I'm going to
write Antoni Cimolino and invite you to do the same.
Here is his info:

Liaison for the Festival's dealings with Poor Yorick is Martine Becu
(Bei-ku), Manager of the Stratford Theatre Store. She can be reached at

If we let The Festival know we think their actions are pretty ugly, they
may be embarrassed into giving Tanya a fair deal. Hey, it worked with
getting the U.S. out of Viet Nam.
All the best,
