Well, that's one reading of the role.

That's another reading of the role.

Branagh's Hamlet was moved by the 1st Player that Heston gave to him.
That's the nature of acting.  Unless you think that Branagh was playing
to a 1st Player created in his own imagination and ignoring the one
being played before him.  That, of course, is bad acting on the part of
both.
