Sorry not to have a funny explanation for avoiding the diphthong in
Plato. It is indeed simply that Koreans are used to hearing and saying
"Platon" as in 'platinum' (or 'platonic') and get confused on hearing me
talk about 'play toe' in Greek philosophy.
