Just a quick note/comment on Professor Ota's announcement...if you're
interested in teaching/living abroad, Fukuoka-the city where Kyushu
University is located-is a great city, with a moderate (for Japan!) cost
of living, interesting history, and easy, fast transportation to the
rest of the country.  And the compensation package described is very
good.  Especially if you're single, you could live very comfortably on
the salary range offered, especially when paying the very modest rent he
offers (it's probably a small apartment, but that's an incredibly low
price for any residence in a major Japanese city).
