Subject: The Glass Menagerie

I will be teaching Tennessee Williams's play The Glass Menagerie later
this semester, and I am interested in knowing what others have thought
or taught about the character Tom being referred to as Shakespeare. Tom
seems to be based on Williams himself. Have other 20th century
playwrights referred to themselves, if only in a roundabout way, as
Shakespeare?
