NINTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE,
PHILADELPHIA, PA
NOVEMBER 15-18, 2001
"A SPACE ODYSSEY"
TOPIC: We are proposing a panel of 5 people on the topic: Theatrical
Spaces: Staging Windows and Doors.
We invite papers (limit: 10 minutes or 5-6 pages) that examine the
literal staging or metaphorical use of windows and/or doors in early
modern and restoration drama. 'Windows' is understood to include the
use of the upper stage, balcony, or terrace; and 'Doors' includes
explicit stage directions referring to stage doors or traps. Possible
scenes for discussion might include the sewer scene or the advertisement
scene in _The Rover_; the window seduction scene in _Ram Alley_ or _The
Devil is an Ass_; or the closet scenes in _Epicoene, or the Silent
Woman_. Papers need not depend on performance theory to explore this
staging issue.
By APRIL 6, PLEASE SEND THE FOLLOWING:
One-page abstracts INCLUDING talk title, presenter's name, complete
mailing address, institutional affiliation (if any), and email address.
