Comment: Re: SHK 12.0579 Re: Poets' Corner
If Hardy is going to allow a poets' corner in this list, here's a
contribution:
Job Description
If there's a room where poetry still sings,
And sense can apprehend a simple truth,
And Theory has not yet enshrouded things
(Wing-beating triumph of a spoiled youth)--
A place where observation humbly is content
To follow after feeling as it flows,
Not without questioning its mixed intent,
Nor showing malice greater than it grows;
If there's a place where cooler heads prevail,
And open windows to let in fresh air,
Come help me break out of this obscure jail
And spread the news of poems everywhere:
The beauty of the word, its truth to life,
It's our job to bring out like a midwife.
