Perhaps -- except that Julia Stiles just starred in another film
featuring a biracial romance, "Save the Last Dance", which was a huge
hit at the box office.  Given that fact, and the tendency of Hollywood
executives to follow, lemming-like, after whatever has recently been
popular, I doubt that the racial issue has much effect on Miramax's
decision.
