By "legally versed commentators", I believe you mean experts in the
20th-century legal system. But if we have on here historians of
Elizabethan legal system, I would like to know their views and/or
insights, too.

Since I don't have a TV, I can't watch Ally McBeal. I wonder what she
would say...
