Thanks to those who have responded so far, but I still feel that there
are miles to go on this momentous problem.  The paucity of names, the
reliance upon Becket, and the analogy with Catherine are an inadequate
accounting.  Surely there is one note of curiosity from the period that
has escaped our recent attentions.
